Q. How can I get better pricing?
A. There are multiple strategies you should be using to improve your pricing.  First off you should watch for promotions, not all of them make it online and deals are struck all month long so ask your sales representative if there is anything going on that day.  You should also consolidate your orders.  Make an effort to push all your business for a month or two to your preferred distributor and you'll be as happy as your sales team at the bump in pricing you'll receive.  If you continue to scatter your orders across multiple distributors looking for the best price on each item then you will be seen by each of them as a lower volume reseller then you actually are.  The higher your volume the lower the price we can afford to give you.

Q. Why are inventory levels so low on memory products at Tech Data?
A. Due to daily and sometime hourly price moves on memory products, and the low margin nature of memory,  Tech Data tries to maintain seven days of supply on generic memory products and 15 days for name brand.  These are tough number to maintain as one off large orders can rapidly deplete our supply.  Your best defense is to maintain a small inventory yourself to buffer against weekly fluctuations in supply.

Q. Why don't I see any Intel Processors on order when there are thousands on back order?
A. Intel will not let us place an order unless they have available inventory to ship.  So any P.O. we placed against product that was uncommitted would be rejected and would not reflect actual product availability.

Q. Why don't I see any Hard Drives on order, when there are thousands on back order?
A. Hard drives ship in multi-packs of various sizes.  They are ordered as singles but ship in case quantities to our Indiana warehouse.  We then have to unpack and then repackage them into the singles, 20 Packs, and 50 Packs that you see when you shop with us.  Since the part you buy is different then the part we order the on order field will never show any information.

Q. Are part-time band leaders semi-conductors?
A. According to Wikipedia - A semiconductor is a solid material that has electrical conductivity in between that of a conductor and that of an insulator; it can vary over that wide range either permanently or dynamically.  Band leaders are solid and not insulators and they can carry a current, just not a tune or they would actually play something instead of prancing around waving a wand, so the answer is yes.  A part-time band leader is a semi-conductor.

Q. How do I obtain backup media for Microsoft Office?
A. To download Office 2007 Backup Media, you may visit the Official Microsoft Website at the link below.
http://www.microsoft.com/office/backup/en-us/default.mspx
The download is free and will be sent to you through a valid e-mail account.
You may NOT use the same office image for multiple installations of different Office 2007 installations.  You will need to download a new copy for each license key.

Q. Do files get embarrassed when they get unzipped?
A. Yes, of course they do.  I feel silly just saying unzipped.  The terms compressing and decompressing give higher "street cred" in the geeky circles I keep.

Q. Can I downgrade Office 2007 OEM applications?
A. No

Q. Does that screwdriver belong to Phillip?
A. No, Henry F. Phillips lost his patent in 1949.

Q. Where can I find processor benchmarks?
A. The ideal place to find benchmarks are on the manufacturers websites.  I'd link to some actual pages but the sites are constantly changing. So here are some handy Google searches, for AMD and Intel.  Other excellent sources are Toms Hardware's CPU chart or Passmark's CPU benchmark page.

Q. Have you ever talked into an acoustic modem?
A. You'll have to answer this for yourself.  As for me I would have to say I've only yelled at the computer itself while the acoustic modem screamed uselessly to a similar device across a telephone line at a blistering 300 bits per second.

Q. My question wasn't answered here, who can I ask and how?
A. You can ask the components team anything you like by following the I can't find link on the right hand menu of every page.
