enables one computer to act as many.
-
You may use the physical server to
host many virtual servers or desktops on a single machine, called a
host.
-
Virtualization lets you virtualize
the hardware using processors that have empowered virtualization
technologies such as Intel VT processors.

- VMware :
VMware, having the lions share of the virtualization
market is installed directly on the bare metal system it is hosted on.
It creates a layer of software called a 'hypervisor' that utilizes all
the hardware dynamically and transparently.
- Microsoft Virtual Machine Manger:
Part of the System Center family, VMM is a new and
exciting offering from Microsoft. It can manage both physical and
virtual machines as well as convert virtual to virtual (VTV) VMware VMDX
/ VMX machines to Microsoft VHD virtual machines and physical to virtual
(PTV) as well.
- Citrix Zen Server:
Developed by leading companies including Microsoft at
the University of Cambridge, Xen Server is installed directly on
hardware using a hypervisor. It sits between hardware and an operating
system using a technology called 'Paravirtualization' Regarded as
the fastest and most secure virtualization software in the industry.
- Parallels Virtuozzo:
Parallels uses what it calls 'Container's' to create
virtual machines isolated on a single physical server. It also uses
Parallels Infrastructure Management to access all VM's from anywhere,
anytime.
